Manatee in the Moon stands on stilts at the edge of the Yucatan peninsula's largest lake, Laguna de los Siete Colores, 'lake of seven colours' also known as Bacalar Lake. Not many lagoons in the world contain crystal clear freshwaters with the color of the Caribbean sea. You can birdwatch and enjoy toucans, wild parrots, king fishers and wild life, if you're lucky you may even have monkeys come and visit. The shore is populated with fragrant orchids and luscious bromeliads and mangrove trees. The north shore of this 50 km long lake was delared a protected biosphere by the Mexican government...Manatee in the Moon sits right in the middle of this pristine area.


     This cabana is furnished with a eqipped kitchen including a propane refrigerator and stove. The dining area has a table and two chairs with lake view. A queen bed with sheets, pillows, blankets and complete your sleeping area. The living area has two chairs and a small library. A shower compliment the 4-piece bathroom with it's roomy tiled shower and modern flush toilet. Towels and linens are provided.


     A mangrove tree-lined boardwalk descends from the deck and provides access  to the lake deck below. Swimming in the crystal clear warm lake water will be somthing you will never forget as the schools of tropical fish glide by. Clothing is optional while you swim and sun bathe. Guests staying at Manatee in the Moon have commented they felt they had the entire lake to themselves.


This cabana is solar powered and is off the grid. An inverter and two 12 volt receptacles can provide the charge for your electronic devices. On cloudy days you will need to reduce your energy consumption as Manatee is solar powered. There is a Sirius radio for your listening pleasure.

Watch the beautiful sunrise and if you're lucky enough to be at Manatee in the Moon on a full moon night, you can watch the big orange moon rise across the lake, turn white and then send shimmering moonbeams over the water.
